Meals of Distribution
ABOUT
Meals of Distribution tackles food waste and hunger by building a culture of respect for food and redirecting surplus to people in need. Inspired by Massimo Bottura’s call to “treat food with respect,” the work centers dignity, mindful consumption, and the power of sharing.
To express “distribution,” the project uses accessible metaphors—most notably a sushi conveyor belt—to show how collaboration moves food to where it’s needed. Across concepts, six small circles symbolize equitable resources across the world’s six continents.;
OVERVIEW
From idea shifts to clear metaphors that make “Zero Hunger” tangible.
Purpose
Transform surplus into sustenance. Reduce waste, honor food, and support SDG 2: Zero Hunger—because every plate should be full.
Process
We refocused from a quote to the core theme, exploring forms like a food pyramid, shared table, sushi belt, hotpot sharing, and turntables to depict access and redistribution.
SIX CORE ELEMENTS
Key ideas that shape the narrative and visuals.
Respect Food
- Mindful consumption inspired by Bottura; dignity at the center.
Redistribute Surplus
- Move excess food to those in need—turn waste into meals.
Equal Access
- Six small circles represent fair distribution across six continents.
Sushi Belt Metaphor
- Food circulates so everyone has a chance to take what they need.
Shared Table
- Collective portions, smaller plates, and shared pots visualize equity.
Iteration & Learning
- Shifted from slogan-driven to theme-first; clearer storytelling and impact.
